Oral hygiene is vital for a strong oral health and smile, which is why your dentist, Dr. Vincent Mayher, strongly encourages you to have a diligent and effective oral hygiene routine that includes brushing, flossing, and rinsing. Little did you know, there are little oral hygiene secrets that can help you have a better oral hygiene routine. Our dental team is happy to tell you all about them!
The first secret is to brush your teeth enough. Some people forget that they need to brush twice a day for two minutes each time. If you’re one of these people, set a reminder on your phone or place sticky notes around the house. If you’re having a hard time brushing for two minutes, just brush while listening to a short song or set a timer for yourself.
The second secret is to keep your toothbrush clean. If you think placing a toothbrush cover over your toothbrush immediately after using it is the right thing to do, you’re wrong. Using the cover while the bristles are still wet can create a moist environment for bacteria to grow and multiply. It’s best to thoroughly rinse the bristles after using the brush and then place the brush upright in a place where it can air dry.
The third secret is to look for the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This logo is a small box with “ADA” inside on the outside of the package. This proves that the oral hygiene tool is safe and effective for the smile. So, it’s best to look for this logo as you purchase your brush, floss, toothpaste, and mouthwash.
